Mid Century Modern Shopping in Sacramento

Words by Patricia Kline

Our Favorite Midcentury Modern Shops (so far)

We have lived in Sacramento for only a few months but we have already zeroed in on some great shops to feed our obession for midcentury modern finds. Unlike in Palm Springs, there isn’t one central location for these shops.  Follow these shops on their Instagram so you can be the first to snag a great find.

The wood art piece we call Dog Llama is from Scout Living in Sacramento.

Scout Living

Our favorite find so far is Scout Living — located in The Handle District near downtown Sacramento.  This design collective owned by Erin and Stefan brings together a small number of midcentury modern dealers under one roof. It is a well curated shop making shopping a pleasure — no need to wade through aisles and aisles of merchandise.  Their inventory changes frequently so stopping in every few weeks always brings fresh finds.

Midway Mall

Yes, this is a large antique mall hosting numerous vendors but this place is well curated and easy to browse due in part to its former life as an Ethan Allen furniture store.  In addition, the vignettes set up by owner Mark Saunders makes it feel almost like a museum. Many of those items are sadly not for sale but we found that you can always ask and sometimes they will let you purchase!  Truly an experience not to be missed!

Mid Century Sacramento

Located in a large warehouse in an industrial park, this spot has mostly furniture and a lot of it. They also do their own restoration of their finds.

Back Corner Midcentury

Located in the Antique Trove in Roseville this shop has several spaces within this huge mall. Save your feet and your sanity and get a map marking her spaces and head directly there for some great vintage finds. Mostly furniture but some artwork as well.

Shop Modern Nostalgic

A tiny shop located on R Street among a selection of restaurants and other shops. Stop by frequently as the small size of this shop means inventory is always changing.

Mike & Greg’s Fine Antiques

The 57th Street Antique and Design Center is an antique mall that we found to be a bit overwhelming with more than 75 vendors to give our attention to. Instead, we were more interested in the design shop across the parking lot called Mike and Greg’s. They are known as “the pottery guys” but they also have a good selection of fine art and estate jewelry as well as some Blenko pieces.
